Yep defiantly 1/2 scale or a mix, or maybe the option to choose when in a stage, like a slow-mo button.

Agree the com system is broken and the answer from devs, doesn't really make any sense. Even if the rider is placed in front of the peleton, which can be seen from the com menu, they often complain they are to badly placed, it doesn't make sense. Also the protect command is not working properly. Eg....

It's definitely done to up the FPS in the game, which makes the game less glitchy and more pretty the last year. I use the team comm, to see where they are placed and off course the "fast forward menu", before I enter back into the game. Hopefully they can render the full peleton for next ...

Yep. Something similar happened to me. I had to use many of my riders to pull in a breakaway, which got way to much time, because no other teams were doing anything, not even those with clear favorites to win the stage.

On XBox I just played my 1st stage. Stage 3 with Voeckler. I won the stage with 17 secs over Henao and Gesink.
