Sprinters stats not effective enough

Although i'm winning a fair few sprints, it feels like it's more about timing and positioning rather than sprint speed. My main sprinter is 84 SPR, 82 ACC but when i time the sprint just a little early, it's too easy for sprinters with lower stats to keep close and then eventually pass as my sprinter fades before the line. No probelm with losing sprints whengetting it wrong but to have riders with 77/77 stats and even stats as low as 73/74 constantly being close and passing just doesn't make sense

After playing more sprint stages since writing this post, it may not be the stats that are the problem but the effectiveness of following in a riders slipstream. I had a climber following my sprinter and when my sprinter was sprinting he was comfortably in his slipstream and following. His red did decrease but still was able to hold is wheel despite only having 64 sprint and my sprinter having 85. I always imagined the sprint stat being the top speed. I don't know if that is the case or not but either way, this shouldn't be happening and it's more than likely why sprints are so close so often and lesser quality sprinters are able to compete and even win stages so often when there's only a slight misjudgment (when in reality, the strongest sprinters have the pace to create a little leeway

interesting ur screen,
I noticed (doing a test) that RES affects red bar as the yellow, so in the sprinter stats u should include: SPR-ACC and RES.
concerning ur test i would like to see an other screenshot as this one u posted but with a slope of 0%
ur sprint is in a negative slope (i read -3% too) so in this situation the DH stat could be taken in account, and maybe for the wind protection mechanics at more than 70 km/h the wind protection is so much effective (it is just a supposition).
So in my opinion should be interesting do a new sprint test with a slope between 0%-1% (1% better in order to reduce the wind protection effect and the HI stat is still not active)
btw it seems an unrealistic sprint as u explained
