Sprint finishes - cant follow another rider

Sorry for originally posting this in the wrong place and apologies if this question has been asked/answered elsewhere.

I'm new to PCM, bought Season 2011 a week or so ago, and my enjoyment is being dampened by the fact that I cannot seem to win any stages.

I am trying to create a lead out train for sprint finishes, but I can't seem to master it.

The problem I have, specifically, is that I cannot get the S-> button to work.

I am playing as HTC Highroad.
I am getting my team to the front of the P, all with decent energy left.
I then pause the game at just under 18km from the finish.
I then use the click rider, right click rider to follow, click S-> technique.
I am then setting up my team so they follow each other, with the back four as my two best flat/stamina riders followed by my second best and then best sprinter, using the S-> button.
I set up my front man to --> 99
Then I unpause the game, but as soon as I do, all my riders stop following each other.
I repeat this over and over again and eventually it becomes too late to create the train and I just try to get Cavendish to follow anyone, but I still cant get it to work.

If anyone knows what I am missing out or doing wrong please let me know so I can enjoy this game.

for your question, before Kwam closes this, you have sometimes to wait for 5-10 km after the 18 last km, because there is a climb with a MC, and this don't permiss you to follow a rider, and sometimes too, there is a little problem with the S, you must click during the play mode, and not the pause, it happens to me for a long time
